Because of the current long time-lags involved in the production of books and the inordinately long gestation period of academic articles a series of in-house publications - The University of Edinburgh: Studies in Economic and Social History - was established in 1992 by the then Department of Economic and Social History in collaboration with Newlees Press in the context of which two series of Discussion Papers and Monographs have already been produced.
